Biography:
KAREN HEYWOOD Dip AD, FRSA
Karen has loved to draw and paint since childhood, when she spent many hours with her sister illustrating imagined stories based around their dolls'exploits.
At Leicester College of Art, where she studied for her Dip AD, Karen was awarded a bursary by the Royal Society of Arts as a result of winning a national competition.
Karen has illustrated over 50 children's books and worked as an animator at Cosgrove Hall Films.
Now painting in her studio at Vernon Mill, Karen's main interest lies in exploring the imagination, through symbolism and fantasy. Sources of inspiration arise mainly from walks in the High Peak.
Exhibitions have included Urbis, Stockport Art Gallery, Buxton Museum and Art Gallery and Broadstone Mill, The Portico Gallery.
