Biography:
I obtained Art ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level at school. Despite art being my best subject, I chose nursing/midwifery as a career.
Throughout my career, I continued to paint as a hobby.
I painted pictures for the various hospital wards where I worked ,Warrington General Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital, and entered the hospitals’ Art Exhibitions/competitions, winning an award at the latter.
When my children were young, I worked part-time as a midwife and attended night school to improve my painting. I sold my first paintings at this time to my colleagues who bartered for them!
Over the years, I have attended workshops, painting parties and demonstrations which helped me to develop my ideas and skills.
I was a member of Stockport Art Guild where I sold paintings in their annual exhibitions, Open Exhibitions and Art Link.
I have been a member of Bramhall Art Society for over 20 years, holding the position of secretary for 9 years.
I am also a member of The Society of Marple Artists.
In 2009, I was a runner up in the Bockingford Postcard Competition, where my work was shown in London in the RKB Gallery.
My work has also been exhibited in:
Sally Brown’s Gallery in Marple;
Toucan Art in Cheadle Hulme;
Bramhall Library;
The Northern Lawn Tennis Club.
I paint in various media and styles depending on mood and subject matter.
I used to paint mainly landscapes in oils, but over the years, due to obtaining new ideas from workshops etc , I have worked in mixed media, collage and decorative art.
I like to look at images of the earth and translate them into abstract designs, adding embellishments.[ Blue Lagoon 2 ] is an example of that. There are more examples of this style on my website.
Currently, I am painting in oils on canvas and added embellishments, a combination of these styles. I like to add gold and beads where possible and love vibrant colours and texture.
Rock and Roll plays a big part in my life and the images and movements of the dancers influence my work.
I design cards for the Rock ‘n’ Roll clubs that I attend and will personalise them to order.
I have a studio at home and am happy to accept visitors to view/buy my paintings and cards, by appointment.
Artist's Location: Cheadle, Cheshire.
