Biography:
Born in Swinton, Lancashire in 1949,I worked as a professional musician during the 70's and 80's in a comedy jug band called Brownsville Banned.
Always having a love for the visual arts, the completion of a Foundation Art & Design course in 1989 I began a serious commitment to painting.
Having painted in an abstract manner for several years and becoming increasingly dissatisfied, I gradually moved towards representation.
I am passionate about the painting process, finding immense pleasure in the substance of oil paint, its richness and plasticity.
Valuing spontanaety and gestural freedom I use painting knives rather than brushes to enable a quick clean response.
I am a member of Vernon Mill Artist's Collective in Stockport,and exhibit regularly in England.
I had a very successful Exhibition at Wendy J Levy Contemporary Art Gallery in September 2008and solo exhibition in Feb 2010
I had a solo exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery in 2005-"The Presence of Colour" and at Astley Cheetham Gallery, Stalybridge titled "The Colour of Reality" in 2006.
An article that I wrote about Knife Painting appeared in the Sept.07 edition of the Artist Magazine. I took part in "Rolf on Lowry" televised event in Manchester in 2007 and was one of the artists with Rolf who painted Piccadilly Gardens.
As part of VMA(Vernon Mill Artists)I exhibited at Buy Art Fair at URBIS, Manchester Oct 2008
My two man show "Seeking the Essential" as part of Chorlton Arts Festival was a great success.

I am based at Vernon Mill Studios,3rd Floor, Mersey St, Stockport (click web link below) which is open weekends 10-16.00. I am in most Saturdays, other times by appointment, please telephone to arrange.
