Biography:
I am an artist/printmaker who particularly enjoys the expressive quality which can be obtained through the use of printing inks and techniques. I use etching, drypoint monoprint and collagraph techniques to explore landscapes, flowers and still life studies. The diversity of techniques employed allow me to portray a variety of impressions within a transient world
My subjects are found in the personal world of home and garden, or may be captured as fleeting images observed as I travel from place to place. Subjects are often committed to memory or recorded by thumbnail sketch to be re-worked later to represent the mood or feeling evoked by the initial observation.
Over the past few years my work has received wider appreciation, having gained interest internationally when exhibiting in Beziers, France and Heilbronn and Kleinsassen, Germany.
I have exhibited widely in the North West and have received a number of awards and commendations for collagraph prints. In 2002, I was elected a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, and in 2004 I won the John White Small Print award at the Manchester Academy Open Exhibition.
The collagraph, drypoint and monoprint are produced as one-off images or in very limited editions, generally from 1 to 5 images in most editions. Each print is individually inked by me, and no two coloured prints are ever exactly the same. Even the black and white prints can vary, as I mix my own blacks, and these can differ according to the mix used. My most recent work has included some chine collé to reflect the vivid colours of the South of france, where I am now living.
Collagraph:A Plate made using a combination of collage and graphics and then inked by hand and printed using a press.
Chine collé: coloured/textured paper can be selectively placed between paper support and inked plate.
Artist's Location: Prades-sur-Vernazobre, Herault.
