Biography:
Born in Glasgow, trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee, currently working out of a studio at Vernon Mill, Stockport. Work has been included in group exhibitions throughout Britain and has featured in one-woman shows in London and Scotland.
My work explores universally human issues through personal experience, emotions and instincts. While conveying mood, memory and being the work is also concerned with gesture, mark making, paint and painting.
The paintings are produced in series
with several recurring themes: the sea; communication; and painting light. Using a limited palette of mainly warm natural pigments, the colours represent earth, air, blood, skin, flesh, sun and fire. The marks and images evoke the figure and the sea and landscape. I attempt to respond to the subject and the medium in a spontaneous, sensitive and honest way. The paintings are often layered but are not about texture; the viewer should look beyond the surface.
